Primary Purpose:

Direct and manage the agricultural science program for assigned campus.  Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college for university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
  • Licensed Vet Tech or Certified Vet Assistant Preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of agricultural science and technology
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to supervise agricultural field experiences
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  • Oversee Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP), including assisting students in selecting and managing projects and supervising school farm.
  • Serve as advisor to local Future Farmers of American (FFA) chapter, including planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities for students as local, regional, and state level.
  • Assist with planning and delivery of adult education and community programs relating to agricultural science and technology.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students’ assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

 

Student Growth and Development

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus administrator.
  • Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.

 

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Accompany and supervise students at all off-campus activities including contests, workshops, and field trips associated with the agricultural science program and FFA.
  • Oversee maintenance of program related facilities and equipment including school farm.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

 

Communication

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

 

Budget and Inventory

  • Develop and administer budget based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds.
  • Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets related to the program.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

 

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

 

Other

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

Supervise assigned teacher paraprofessionals.

 

Evaluation

 

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of teachers and the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS).

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head

Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting and carrying (up to 45 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over); may lift and move agriculture equipment and animals

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide and state travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors; work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; exposure to biological hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects or vehicles; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; work around animals; may work alone

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours

Probationary contract – 195 days plus 4 days of Alief U professional development for a teacher new to the district

2023-2024 Salary Schedule 

2024-2025 Salary Schedule is pending school board approval

$4000 Stipend

 Salary/stipend is based on working 195 days. Working less than 195 days will be less salary.
