Primary Purpose:

To help maintain district facilities and sites in a condition of operating excellence so that full use is available at all times.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalency preferred
  • Valid Class B or C Texas driver’s license (as needed for specific area) with a safe driving record to pass a DMV check

 

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Possess skills required to meet the performance responsibilities in the respective trade area
  • Able to use all tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of safety requirements for the respective trade area
  • Flexible and able to adjust daily routine
  • Ability to work in exposure to all weather conditions

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Maintenance and Operations

  • Assume responsibility to make minor repairs of any nature in facilities and sites owned by the district.
  • Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
  • Receive and complete work orders in a timely manner. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  • Recognize when a specialized trade is needed to solve problems.
  • Examine facilities owned by the district on a regular basis for purposes of preventative maintenance.
  • Comply with working guidelines of the department.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.

Safety

  • Remove and/or advise foreman of any hazardous situations noticed while working on school grounds and sites.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.  Follow safety guidelines as listed in the Maintenance Services Department safety manual.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the foreman.
  • Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding equipment and facilities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to make sure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Inventory and Equipment

  • Implement and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for tools and equipment.
  • Ensure that vehicles and equipment are in safe operating condition and notify foreman if not.
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.

Other

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Evaluation

 

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Manual Trades - Maintenance Personnel.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; small hand tools, power tools, trucks, vans and trailers; heavy equipment such as backhoe, tractor, forklift, trencher, etc  

Vision and Hearing: Moderate to maximum

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing, pulling, crawling, reaching, and twisting; standing/walking, sitting; climbing, wrist turn, and grasping occasionally

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent walking, climbing ladders and scaffolding; grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting 75-100 pounds

Carrying: Frequent carrying up to 25 pounds and occasionally carrying over 30 pounds

Environment: Work outside 100%; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures (30O – 102O F), dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, and vibration; work around moving objects or vehicles; may work alone; occasional prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Salary Range: Min-$15.90 Mid-$19.22 Max-$22.54 (Based on previous experience)

2023-2024 Salary Schedule
