Primary Purpose:
To create and maintain special education campus-based files for all special education students; and provide accurate information on which to base management decisions, automatic production of state and federal special education reports and automatic production of various other reports as necessary.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school graduate or GED
- Qualifies for appropriate state paraprofessional certification
- Fifteen (15) semester hours of college credit with a business emphasis preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Effective communication, human relations and leadership skills
- Proficient in use of digital tools including Google Suite, Microsoft 365 ARD/IEP Software and Learning Management Systems
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred
Experience:
- Three (3) years of general clerical/secretarial experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management
- Set up and maintain a record of all special education student information.
- Schedule IEP meetings and staffings, prepare ARD Notices, and follow up as directed.
- Document all communication with parents on parent Contact Log (Emails, calls, texts, documents and conversations).
- Maintain current campus Special Education files and update as changes occur. This may include paper or electronic maintenance of a number of records including student rosters, service logs, transportation forms, etc.
- Collaborate with registrar to ensure all newly enrolled students have been reviewed for special education eligibility or referral information.
- Submit to Central SEMS Clerks all original special education evaluation protocols.
- Implement the production of and verify data/accuracy of all necessary computer-generated state and federal reports.
- Manage student enrollment information in IEP Management Software.
- Support the campus UPAR process by administering the test to students and maintaining records.
- Assists campus to update Summary of ARDed services (monthly update) based on daily ARD meetings.
- Generate and review reports regularly and monitor for accuracy.
- Support special education staff and students at the campus level.
- Implement production and maintain all necessary records required for audit purposes and distribute as directed.
- Maintain current rosters and report as may be requested to aid program management.
- Gather and review special education referral packets for accuracy and completion and upload to IEP Management Software.
- Maintain special education forms and disperse them as requested. Duplicate documents upon request.
- Assist in clerical duties, i.e. answering special education telephones, filing, correspondence, etc.
- Attend district meetings and staff development sessions to keep abreast of changes in current special education local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
- Perform one campus daily duty assignment (either before or after school).
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Non-Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Salary Range: Min-$23,457 Mid-$28,425 Max-$33,394 (Based on previous experience)
