Primary Purpose:

Specializes in problem solving and can be considered as a “mediator” for any organization.  Conduct research and interpret, plan, develop and implement strategy for organizational development.  Acts as the liaison or agent among managers, supervisors, and employees in an official environment.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • College degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Master TCOLE Peace Officer Certification
  • State certification for police dispatcher and TLETS II Basic-Telecommunications preferred
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Broad experience in campus police operations and administration
  • Strong customer service philosophy to foster a balanced & sustainable community
  • Strong communications skills both written and oral.
  • Skilled in public speaking and be able to interact with employees and community
  • Demonstrate modern management skills and abilities for effective leadership
  • Experience with computer automated record systems, spreadsheets & databases
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, administrators and others

Experience:

  • Fifteen (15) or more consecutive years as a full time paid peace officer
  • Prior supervisory experience as a police supervisor

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Department Management

  • Possess the ability to evaluate and analyze the accomplishments of department’s goals and objectives, to conduct research and to quantify programs.
  • Make judgements on all possible decisions and realize ramifications or possible impact of each decision.

Law Enforcement

  • Has proven ability to respond as a leader in situations requiring use of sound judgment and decisive actions.
  • Communicate effectively in making oral and written reports.
  • Respond to calls for service.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling purposes.
  • Recognize when a decision is necessary and exhibit readiness to make a sound decision.
  • Oversee detention facility for juvenile/adult brought to the department for processing.
  • Able to identify and choose appropriate decisions from a variety of choices. Recognize when a decision is necessary and exhibit readiness to make a sound decision.
  • Use discretionary authority effectively.
  • Knowledge and training in community oriented policing, problem solving techniques, criminal investigations, case management, program development and project management.
  • Perform duties efficiently with a minimum of supervision and utilizes time efficiently.

Safety

  • Help provide traffic control at athletic events, school closings or openings, or at any other time.
  • Provide protection to or escort district personnel as needed.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Personnel Management

  • Demonstrate the ability to interact positively with the staff and public. Assures that subordinate employees have a clear sense of what is expected and participates in open two-way communication.
  • Demonstrate willingness to develop skills of others and fairly evaluate the effectiveness of subordinates and the organization.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of modern supervisory methods, police policies and procedures. Confronts problems associated with employee performance to achieve needed improvement.
  • Develop, maintain and promote a cooperative and harmonious work relationship with fellow officers within and outside the department.
  • Supervise police officers. Able to assess capabilities and skills of staff for optimum use of personnel.  Able to train and develop staff members and keep staff informed on new developments.
  • Schedule and supervise officers for district extra duty events.
  • Shift scheduling for officers and coordinate requests for time off.
  • Coordinate, delegate and follow-up on subordinate’s performance.

Administration

  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and documents required, including affidavits for arrest, incident reports, and activity reports.
  • Assist with maintaining property room for storage of weapons, contraband, and other items confiscated on district property.
  • Assist with coordination of vehicles and equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Able to set priorities, coordinate and schedule tasks or events in a logical manner to maximize staff and material resources and increase efficiency.
  • Anticipate problems and is proactive thinking rather than simply being reactive to problems.
  • Formulate objectives and set standards of performance.
  • Speak in a clear and understandable manner so that listeners will grasp the message being delivered and listen attentively to others.

Other

  • Perform duties efficiently with a minimum of supervision and utilizes time efficiently.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise and evaluate assigned police department employees.

 

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Supervisor Personnel.

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: District vehicle, firearm, handcuffs, alarm system, security equipment, two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing

Motion:  Strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent driving

Lifting:   Moderate lifting and carrying (15 - 44 pounds)

Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather). Frequent districtwide travel

Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements. May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations.  Ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; on call 24 hours a day.

Salary Range Min-$60,307 Mid-$72,012 Max-$83,725 (Based on previous experience).

260 Days

 

2024-2025 Salary will be calculated based on the number of working days remaining in the school year.
