2025-2026 School District Substitute
Substitutes with active status do not need to re-apply.
Primary Purpose: Provide students with appropriate learning activities, instruction and supervision by implementing the lesson plans as directed by the absent teacher, principal, or other responsible staff.
Responsibilities
Instructional Strategies
- Complete the duties and tasks of the absent teacher
- Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the absent teacher or designated staff
- Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to the lesson plans
- Work cooperatively with teachers to modify curriculum for students as needed or noted in lesson plans
Student Growth and Development
- Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the campus and school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Submit attendance reports
- Implement a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the lesson plans, Student Code of Conduct, and student handbook.
- Supervise students at all times.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain a clean and orderly classroom and follow the classroom and school procedures as directed by the school.
- Report and accidents or incidents.
- Be flexible and willing to cover a different assignment upon principal’s request
Communication
- Communicate in a friendly, positive, and professional manner towards students, parents, staff, and administrators.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Report on time, report for any assigned duty, work through the end of stated sub hours.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s) if applicable
Substitute Teacher Types
- Certified - This position requires active Texas Educator Certification
- Degreed - This position requires a conferred Bachelors Degree
- Non-Degree - This position requires 60 college/university hours
Substitute Nurse
- Requires a current nursing license
Substitute Paraprofessional
- Requires a high school diploma
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged standing & sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment: All campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

2025-2026 Substitute Pay:
