Bus Driver @ Transportation Department (new $18.59 hourly rate)

Primary Purpose:

 

Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

  1. Valid Class B - CDL Drivers’ License with “P” and “S” endorsements
  2. Must successfully complete TEA School Bus Driver certification class

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age
  2. Must submit to prescribed DOT drug testing program
  3. Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
  4. Must be insurable under fleet policy restrictions
  5. Must have an annual physical examination
  6. Able to perform occasional physical labor
  7. Able to follow written and verbal instructions
  8. Able to use maps and other systems to follow routes and locate addresses
  9. Able to manage student behavior
  10. Able to communicate effectively with others
  11. Able to operate the bus

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Manual Trades - Transportation Personnel.

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

 

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; district vehicle

Posture: Prolonged standing, kneeling/squatting bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions over, in and under vehicles

Motion:  Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding; regular grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent quick movements in small areas

Lifting: Frequent moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-50 pounds)

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery, hard or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
