Primay Purpose:
To provide supplemental instructional support to Teachers of Emergent Bilingual students to build instructional capacity through professional development, modeling, observation and debriefing protocols.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited college or university
- Valid educator certification and highly qualified status for the position advertised
- Valid ESL Certification grade appropriate
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- English proficiency (oral and literacy skills); Bilingual preferred but not required
- Multiple grade level experience preferred (middle and high school)
- T-TESS: Proficient
- Knowledge & understanding of Language Development and Best Practices for instructing ELLs
- Instructional leadership skills and experience
- Knowledge & understanding of the district’s Dual Language Program (middle school)
- Knowledge & understanding of the district’s ESL program
- Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, DMAC, Excel, & presentation platforms
- Knowledge and ability to ouse a Learning Management System
Experience:
- Minimum three (3) years’ of classroom teaching experience as a teacher of EBs
- Multiple grade level experience preferred
- Deep knowledge of sheltered instruction
- Experience with Effective Schools Framework
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management
- Serves as an instructional support for teachers of EBs with planning, modeling, coaching, observations and debriefing activities
- Assists ESL Specialist with progress monitoring to improve EB instruction and monitor effectiveness of interventions
- Collaborates with content specialists to serve as an instructional coach for ESL/EB teachers
- Partners with District MLP specialist to align district & campus goals
- Works cooperatively with campus leaders to meet the needs of EB students
- Provides campus professional development as directed by principal and district in order to address the needs of EB students
- Attends district ESL meetings
- Attends district professional development trainings for ESL leaders
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Non-Supervisor Personnel.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head
Lifting: Frequent moderate lifting and carrying (up to 25 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (25-50 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Probationary contract – 187 days plus 4 days of Alief U professional development for a teacher new to the district
2023-2024 Salary Schedule
2024-2025 Salary Schedule is pending school board approval
Salary is based on 187 days. If working less than 187 days, the salary/stipend will be less.
