Nutrition - Manager Training @ Nutrition Department (3 Positions)

Primary Purpose:
To supervise storage, preparation and service of wholesome, nutritious foods within the guidelines established by USDA Health Department and Alief ISD.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED required
- State of Texas or ANSI accredited Food Manager’s Certification required
- College degree preferred
- Courses in F.S. management preferred
- Successful completion of AISD MIT training program
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Must have great computer skills
- Strong leadership sklills
- Must have interpersonal skills
- Basic math – addition, multiplication and fractions
- Good personal hygiene and appearance
- Ability to communicate effectively with all other staff in assigned areas
- Ability to train
Experience:
- Two (2) years management experience in school foodservice (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Cafeteria Management and Food Preparation
- Manage daily operations of assigned facilities.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students and parents.
- Instruct, supervise and evaluate staff in proper storage, preparation and service while maintaining the highest standards of safety, sanitation and food quality.
- Insure that meals for satellites are delivered per schedule and food is of the highest quality.
- Visit satellites daily (unless otherwise approved by Supervisor).
- Maintain standards for sound financial management – controlling labor, inventory and cash.
- Provide catering/special functions for students and staff.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate and work well with others.
- Develop work schedules and oversee completion of duties.
- Work cooperatively with campus principals to accommodate temporary schedule changes, special serving requirements and to resolve personnel problems.
Safety and Sanitation
- Ensure food is produced safely and is of high quality according to policies, procedures, and department requirements. Store and handle food items and supplies safely following health and safety codes and regulations.
- Conduct food handler safety training at the campus level and enforce standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
- Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards, and follow established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
Inventory and Equipment
- Order food and supplies per standardized menus and recipes within a specified time frame.
- Maintain a clean and organized storage area. Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.
- Maintain logs on all equipment maintenance required. Perform preventive maintenance and report needed equipment repairs. Recommend replacement of existing equipment to meet department needs.
- Conduct regular physical equipment and supplies inventory.
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Demonstrate proficiency in USDA and HACCP required recordkeeping: menus, recipes, production records, inventory control, etc.
- Know and follow all HACCP procedures.
- Meet all health department requirements.
- Follow district and departmental policies, procedures outlined in employee’s handbook.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents including reports of daily and monthly financial, production, and activity records.
- Review and submit accurate time and attendance records for payroll reporting purposes.
- Participate actively in educational opportunities through TDA sponsored workshops and TASN conferences and skills courses and other approved educational opportunities.
Other
- Must obtain minimum required annual Professional Standard training hours, per USDA regulations.
- Must attend required training, in-service and work related activities.
- Evaluate staff performance and train employees monthly.
- Must work in various schools, as needed.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties assigned.
- Train all new mangers according to Management Training program
- Fill in at other campuses when needed
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manage daily operations of assigned facilities.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Manual Trades - Nutrition Personnel.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; district vehicle, large and small kitchen equipment
Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting; walking, occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, reaching, wrist turning, grasping, finger manipulation and twisting frequently. Must be able to use step ladder, sweep, mop, and clean equipment
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent reaching
Vision & Hearing: Moderate to Maximum
Lifting and Carrying: Frequent lifting and carrying on hard surface floors (up to 20 pounds). Over 20 pounds must use cart for transport and ask for assistance to lift case on/off cart.
Environment: May work prolonged/irregular hours; inside 95%; temperatures -10o - 130o F
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress
