Primary Purpose:
To ensure clean, sanitary, hazard-free schools, facilities and environment.

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledgeable in use and care of all types of cleaning equipment
- Possess sound human relation skills
- Possess some keyboarding, emails, data entry skills
- Flexible and able to adjust daily routine
- Ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions
- Ability to work in exposure to all weather conditions
Experience:
- Experience in supervising, training, and evaluating custodial/housekeeping personnel
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Custodial Services Operations
- Complete work in a neat, orderly and safe manner.
- Follow established policies and procedures.
- Maintain good attendance, safety and driving records.
- Implement directions received from Director and/or Supervisor.
- Honestly report and serve in all facets of work.
- Responsible for the care, cleaning and preservation of schools/facilities and campus areas.
- Responsive to the needs of the school principal or facility administrator.
- Ensure that high standards of sanitation and hazard-free conditions are maintained by regular inspections.
- Responsible for opening and closing buildings in a safe and secure manner.
- Responsible for secure locking of all exterior gates/mechanical room doors.
- Insure trash dumpster(s) picked up as scheduled. Reports any deviations.
- Minimize damage to buildings, equipment, furniture and landscape by following established procedures.
- Perform routine custodial tasks as a working supervisor.
- Open, operate and secure school facilities outside normal working hours and normal work days when required.
- Maintain gym floors and refinish yearly.
Personnel Management
- Prepare work schedules, special duty assignments, time reports and other records.
- Report absences to Custodial Office.
- Responsible for the general conduct, personal appearance and performance of a custodial staff.
- Plan and supervise the work of the custodial staff with the help of the assistant head custodian.
- Initiate disciplinary reports as needed.
- Provide on-the-job training for custodians.
- Evaluate the performance of assigned custodial staff.
- Provide good example for a custodial staff.
- Prepare the Assistant Head to assume the duties of the Head Custodian.
Inventory and Equipment
- Operate and care for custodial equipment and tools.
- Maintain an adequate supply of cleaning supplies. Issue supply requisitions as needed.
- Responsible for the care and accountability of fixed asset custodial equipment.
- Safely mixes and controls use of chemicals according to label instructions.
- Use required safety equipment and protective clothing while working.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. ? Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise assigned employees.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Manual Trades - Custodial Personnel.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; forklift or hydraulic lifting equipment; hand truck, dolly, and pallet jack; ladders, small hand tools; light truck or van
Vision and Hearing: Moderate to maximum
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing, pulling, crawling, reaching, and twisting; prolonged standing/walking; climbing, wrist turn, and grasping occasionally
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent walking, climbing ladders and scaffolding; grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, twisting, pinching, finger manipulation, overhead reaching, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead;
Lifting: Frequent lifting up to 35 pounds and occasionally lifting up to 45 pounds.
Carrying: Occasionally carrying up to 50 pounds with the assistance of another person, not to exceed 80 pounds total;
Environment: Work inside 95% and outside 5%; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to hot and cold temperatures (70O – 95O F), dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, and vibration; work around moving objects or vehicles; may work alone; occasional prolonged or irregular hours
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
